Barri Gòtic and Barcelona Cathedral

The medieval core over the Roman street plan — the free anchor of any call.

Under the Gothic there is Rome: Barcino, the colony whose grid still organises the lanes, which is what makes this more than scenery — every square hides a layer. The cathedral and its cloister with the thirteen geese, Plaça Sant Felip Neri with the shrapnel scars on the façade, Plaça Reial with the lamps the young Gaudí designed.

For a reader on a ship’s clock it is the city’s most valuable asset: dense, free, ten minutes on foot from the shuttle drop-off, and immune to sold-out tickets. Cathedral visiting windows and tourist admission are set by the chapter and are not stated here until confirmed against its own source.
