Castle
Castell de Bellver
A circular Gothic castle in a pine wood, with the whole bay — and your ship — laid out below.
Raised in the fourteenth century for King Jaume II, Bellver is one of very few circular castles in Europe and the oldest of them. It has been a royal residence, a fortress and, for centuries, a political prison, and it stands a hundred metres above the sea inside a dense pine wood.
The plan is the pleasure: a two-level central courtyard, round arches below and Gothic ones above, and a roof terrace that takes in the Tramuntana on one side and the cruise port on the other. Access works on foot from the bus stop, and the final climb is real.
