Pastéis de Belém
The original custard tart, its own recipe, and two entirely different queues.
This page is in verification. Nothing on it has been confirmed on site or against primary sources yet — that is why the facts column is empty rather than filled with guesses. It completes, or it comes down. How we verify
The house works from a recipe kept out of print, and the tart it produces is the reference against which every other pastel de nata in the country is judged: laminated pastry with real snap, custard set just short of firm, cinnamon and sugar added at the table.
Its layout is the practical thing to know — a takeaway counter and a very large room behind it, which are not the same wait. Hours, prices and service arrangements publish here only when a source that states them has been checked.
