Crete
A Minoan palace, a gorge you walk down, and the largest island in Greece.
Crete is big enough to have separate cultures at either end: Chania and its Venetian harbour in the west, Heraklion and Knossos in the centre, and a south coast that stays quiet. The Samaria gorge is a full day on foot, and Elafonissi and Balos are the beaches everyone photographs.
around 6.6 million visitors and roughly €4.57 billion in tourism revenue2024
