Rhodes
An inhabited medieval city, and an acropolis above a whitewashed village.
The medieval city of Rhodes is UNESCO-listed and still lived in — the Street of the Knights and the Palace of the Grand Masters are inside a working town, not a site. Lindos, down the east coast, stacks an acropolis above a village and a bay, and is the island’s other essential day.
